Each membership category exists to provide a pathway for people at various stages of their Cyber Security careers. The AICS assesses each member against the relevant criteria.

Associate of AICS (AAICS)

  • Associate members are any individuals who have not worked in the Cyber Security industry previously Does not meet the extended requirements for becoming a ‘Member’ (MAICS); or
  • Students at an Australian Tertiary education Institution who are studying Cyber Security.

The mandatory Cyber Security Professional Development (CSPD) requirement does not apply for this class of membership.

Member of AICS (MAICS)

To be eligible for the ‘Member’ class, you will ordinarily be working as:

  • An employee of an IT business engaged in related Cyber Security activities;
  • An employee of a non-IT business who is partly or wholly engaged in IT activities;
  • An employee of a Cyber Security business;
  • A partner or sole proprietor of a professional practice who engages in Cyber Security related activities;
  • Academic personnel at the level of, or equivalent to, professor; or
  • A person with management experience or currently in a managerial role that engages in Cyber Security related activities.

The above criteria is determined on application and usually requires a professional reference to attest to the applicant member meeting the requirements.

Graduate of AICS (GAICS)

To be eligible for the ‘Graduate Member’ class, you must have successfully completed the Australian Institute of Cyber Security Accreditation Course and meet at least one (1) of the following criteria:

  • Have been working as a Cyber Security Professional for two (2) or more years;
  • Be a senior executive with responsibilities and activities relating to Cyber Security;
  • Be a partner or sole proprietor of a professional practice with activities relating to Cyber Security; or
  • Be an academic at a tertiary institution regulated by the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency and have research or teaching interests in Cyber Security.

The above criteria is determined on application and usually requires a professional reference to attest to the applicant member meeting the requirements.

To be eligible to renew membership of the Institute into the class of Graduate Member, an existing Graduate Member must fulfil the mandatory CSPD requirement.

Special Agent of the Australian Institute of Cyber Security – SAAICS

The AICS has a special category of members who have completed the Accreditation Course and have certain experience, qualities and standing in the profession who can apply and be selected to hold a special certification as a Special Agent. This class of member has certain roles and responsibilities above and beyond General Membership and different to those of Fellows.

Fellow of the Australian Institute of Cyber Security – FAICS

In general, admission as a Fellow of the Institute is by invitation only. Applications for admission as a Fellow may be made to the Institute and are per the discretion of the Board. Invitations may be made to Graduate Members with significant experience and contributions to the Cyber Security industry.
