About the Australian Institute of Cyber Security

The Australian Institute of Cyber Security (AICS) is Australia’s professional institute for cyber security. We exist to advance the profession, uphold its standards, and support the practitioners who protect Australia’s digital future.

Through membership, accreditation, and professional development, AICS provides the credentials, community, and resources that serious cyber security professionals rely on. We publish best practice guidelines, continuing professional development resources, and industry updates. We advocate for excellence in cyber security practice and engage with government on matters of national cyber security policy.

What AICS Does

AICS serves the cyber security profession across four core functions. First, we operate a structured accreditation pathway that awards industry-recognised credentials, from Foundations Certified through to Fellow (FAICS), based on demonstrated competence rather than self-assessment. Second, we deliver professional training courses including the Foundations of Cyber Security, the Cyber Security Accreditation Course, and specialist programmes for lawyers and accountants. Third, we maintain a Cyber Security Professional Development (CSPD) programme that ensures accredited members remain current in a field where the threat landscape, regulatory environment, and technical tooling evolve continuously. Fourth, we provide a professional community through networking events, career support, ethics and welfare services, and advocacy that represents the profession’s interests to government and industry.

Who We Serve

AICS members are practitioners, educators, researchers, and leaders who collectively shape the direction of the profession in Australia. They work across government, defence, financial services, healthcare, telecommunications, critical infrastructure, and the private sector, spanning every Australian state and territory.

Governance and Integrity

AICS is a national organisation governed by a non-executive advisory board with expertise across cyber security, law, risk, and government. We operate with independence and integrity, funded by membership fees and course enrolments rather than vendor sponsorship. This ensures we remain accountable to our members and the profession, not to external commercial interests.

Our Role in the National Landscape

As the recognised voice of the cyber security community, AICS contributes to national cyber security strategy consultations, engages with regulatory bodies on workforce and standards issues, and maintains relationships with international cyber security associations across the Asia-Pacific.

Acknowledgement

AICS acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the lands on which we operate and recognises the continuing connection of First Nations peoples to land, waters, and community.
