The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), the UK’s cybersecurity agency has warned that Artificial intelligence will make it more difficult to spot whether emails are genuine or sent by scammers and malicious actors, including messages that ask computer users to reset their passwords. The types of scams mentioned, principally phishing messages (where users are tricked into handing over passwords or personal details) would become more prevalent due to the sophistication of AI tools. The report comes as the British Cyber Security Centre is poised to deal with these new threats.

Generative AI is the term used for technology that can produce conversational and convincing text, voice and images from simple hand-typed prompts, has now become more widely available to the broader business and consumer community through chatbots such as ChatGPT and open source models.
