This course is designed for accounting professionals who need to understand cyber security in the context of their practice, covering regulatory obligations, financial data protection, and practical security measures.
The Cyber Skills for Accountants course is designed for accounting professionals across all practice areas, from those with no IT background through to specialists in Forensic Accounting, Expert Evidence Reporting, IT Controls, and Internal Auditing. The course provides a practical grounding in cyber security as it applies to accounting practice, equipping participants to identify cyber security risks and help protect their clients and firms. Accountants who complete the course are eligible for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points and course content is tailored to meet those requirements.
Sample Topics
The course covers cyber security issues specific to accounting practice across three progressive modules.
Module 1 – Cyber Security Fundamentals for Accountants covers what is cyber security for accountants, regulatory obligations for accountants, and common cyber threats to accounting practices.
Module 2 – Practical Protection covers incident response for accountants, the Essential Eight for accounting practices, cloud accounting security, and protecting client financial data.
Module 3 – Culture, Communication and Case Study covers secure communication and file sharing, building a cyber security culture in your practice, and case study of tax agent credential compromise.
Each module includes a graded assessment. A passing grade of 70% is required. Successful completion of this course earns graduates the right to use the post-nominal AICSA.
