AICS instructors help deliver professional cyber security education aligned with the institute’s curriculum, standards and membership expectations.
Teaching for a professional institute
Teaching with AICS is a professional responsibility. Instructors are expected to bring recognised cyber security practice into the learning environment, while teaching to the institute’s approved curriculum rather than personal preference or vendor-led material.
An AICS instructor should be able to explain cyber security concepts clearly, apply them to real practice, and support students who are developing professional judgement. The role is not only about technical knowledge. It also requires sound communication, preparation, consistency and respect for the standards expected of a professional institute.
Applicants should have verifiable experience in cyber security or a closely related field. This may include operational security, governance, risk, incident response, assurance, investigation, architecture, education, leadership or other recognised areas of practice. The institute may ask for evidence of experience, qualifications, professional standing or other relevant information during review.
Instructor expectations
AICS seeks instructors who can represent the institute’s values in the classroom and contribute to a consistent national standard of cyber security education. Applicants should be prepared to teach the AICS curriculum as set, use approved learning materials, and follow assessment and delivery requirements where they apply.
Professional standing
Instructors are expected to hold a current AICS designation, such as MAICS, GAICS or FAICS, appropriate to their level of practice and experience.
Verifiable practice
Applicants should be able to show recognised cyber security practice through work history, professional evidence, qualifications, references or other material requested by the institute.
Curriculum alignment
AICS instructors teach to the approved AICS curriculum. They should be willing to follow institute guidance and support consistent outcomes for students.
Ongoing CPD
Instructors are expected to maintain current knowledge through continuing professional development and to keep their own practice aligned with changes in the field.
Application and review
Submitting an instructor application does not automatically appoint an applicant as an AICS instructor. Each application is reviewed by the institute. The review may consider professional designation, practical experience, suitability to teach, ability to follow the curriculum, and commitment to ongoing CPD.
The institute may request further information before making a decision. This process helps protect the quality of AICS education and ensures that instructors are appropriately prepared to teach students in a professional cyber security setting.
