What digital forensic investigation actually is
Digital forensic investigation is the structured examination of digital evidence using methodology that can be defended in front of a court, a regulator, a board, or a counter-expert. It is not data recovery, it is not IT support, and it is not running a free internet tool over a hard drive. The defining feature is methodology: every step is documented, every artefact is preserved, every conclusion is grounded in what the evidence actually shows.
When AICS members are engaged
Family law and Federal Circuit and Family Court matters
Computers, phones, accounts and digital trails. AICS practitioners can produce expert reports in compliance with court rules, including the verifying affidavit.
Commercial disputes
Intellectual property theft, employment matters, contract disputes, fraud and breach of confidence. Where the evidence is digital, AICS members examine it properly.
Incident response support
Where an organisation has had an incident and needs an independent forensic eye separate from the IT vendor.
Subpoenaed material review
S99 / S102 subpoena production, exchange records, wallet attribution, account activity, complaint material – AICS practitioners examine the actual material the parties have, not the surface summary.
